Meteora is located in the centre of Greece in a unique mountainous region. Much like my previous post on the Zhangjiajie forest, Meteora is known for its “columns” that rise up from the earth. Unlike Zhangjiajie however, Meteora is also home to many old monasteries which were built on top of these columns! Again Meteora outside of Greece is not as well known but became more popular after it was featured in the James Bond movie, For Your Eyes Only, where Bond “climbs” one of the cliffs up to a monastery. A stunning place for its natural and architectural beauty, I passed up a chance to visit it when I was in Greece and it was one of the biggest regrets on my trip. Hopefully I will get to see it in the near future!
