Göreme, Turkey

Göreme is a town, a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site in Cappadocia, Turkey. Why is it so special? Because of its unique rock formations called fairy chimneys that rise up randomly out of the ground. This has allowed the town to not only build itself around the chimneys but also inside the rock. A rapidly growing tourist attraction in Turkey it features amazing architecture and places like an open air museum which is a perfect example of a building built right into the rocks. This is a place I really regret not visiting on my backpacking trip through Europe because it really looks like somewhere out of a fairy tale!
