Samarkand, Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan! Ya that’s right…WOW! (I think I use exclamation points to liberally.) Anyways, Samarkand is the the “Crossroad of Cultures” as it flourished as a trading post along the silk road from the Mediterranean to China. It was also an important Islamic centre for scholarly study. With a population of around 400,000, it it one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world and a UNESCO site. Uzbekistan… who knew right? I sure didn’t but I’m glad I do now!
